INNER FIRE

INNER FIRE

Burning brightly, engulfing its dwelling
Scorching flames, relentless, unrestrained
Burned out windows, debris scattered around
Untouched foundation, standing strong, unwavering

Drinking the rain, that pours down from the sky
Unable to extinguish the fire, scorching inside
Unstoppable, encompassing all that it can
Igniting fearless passion, bringing it alive

Fervid flames vacillate to glowing embers
Emanating from within, brilliantly, beautiful
Immersed in the rain, dancing flames underneath
Unquenchable, thirsting with unyielding vigor

THE NIGHT

The Night

Carefree, in the woods, beautiful at dusk
Jumping over fallen branches, running through the mulch
Tranquility, underneath, the sun-kissed twilight sky
My heart beating fast, waiting for a sign
The sound of branches cracking, muffled in the distance
I hear advancing footsteps, catching up to mine

Faster I run, gasping for breath
Sounds of the night, echo in the wind
Darkness above, accents the starry night
The full moon gleams, casting shadows through the trees
Exhilarated, though breathless, as the chase closes in
I see my destination, not far, in the distance

A quick glance behind me, stops me in my tracks
Gone from the trail, no sound of footsteps
Approaching the cabin, my hand on the door
I wonder no more, your breath close behind me
Can’t help but smile at your playful allure
You kiss my cheek slowly as you open the door

Into our world, the cabin in the woods
Leave everything behind, until dawn’s first sign
Our place in the woods, somewhere only we know
Our time, our place, until morning’s first glow

WALLS OF GLASS

WALLS OF GLASS

Walls of glass, her reflection surrounds
Bare skinned and vulnerable, she looks around
Hard to recognize the girl looking back,
Hard to recall a few months back

Look past the surface, to what lies beneath
Past tears and confusion, to the soul underneath
Beyond the scars that since have healed
Closed up, not forgotten, just buried and sealed

Crawled out from an abyss, emerged from a hole
Once broken, now stronger, from life’s unfair toll
Her strength within, the passion in her heart
No longer contained, eager for a new start

She glances again at the girl looking back
She smiles, she knows, no longer does she lack
The void that was missing, her fire now reclaimed
Burning brighter, stronger, her spark regained

Familiar again, the girl she always knew
The same heart and soul remaining true
She smiles as she turns and walks away
Her reflection, reflecting what her heart has to say

The warm summer sun
The colorful leaves
The sparkling snow
The puddles in spring

Opened my eyes
Made me see things
I was blind to before
Or had lost interest in

The warmth of your smile
Lifted my heart
The depth of your eyes
Pulled me in

You brought back my laughter
The sparkle in my eyes
Brought life to my life
Gave me drive

Now I bask in the sun
Run through the leaves
Play in the snow
Dance in the rain

I love how you dance right next to me
To the song that you wrote while I was asleep

Unshackled

UNSHACKLED

Walking a road, destination unknown
A crossroads I reach, I stand alone
A choice to make, two different paths
Gather my thoughts, reflect on my past

A path familiar, lined trees young and old
Traditions deeply rooted, expectations to uphold
A trail cut to follow, molded and planned
Another branch on a tree, a speck in the sand

A path unfamiliar, tall grasses and weeds
No trail cut by formers, unknown where it leads
Seeking fulfillment, strong, driven and bold
My dreams passionately eager, waiting to unfold

Torn between aspiration and others dictation
Fearful of regret, fearful of alienation
Hopeful for understanding, hopeful for a day
They’ll understand my desire, the need for my say

Unshackle the roots, snap my branch
Gather my courage, I must take a chance
My choices, my consequences, my own to make
Trails to carve out, my journey to take

A Memory

A MEMORY…

I walk along, a memory dances across my mind
Familiar to me, but my eyes seem blind
I know this place; I’ve seen it before
But the colors were brighter; there was so much more

The water glistened, like sparkling glass
The sun made shadows that danced on the grass
The smell of the seasons filled the air
Songs of the birds echoed everywhere

I look around, could this be the place
That once felt enchanted, that we frequently graced
Shadows dance across my mind
Unable to grasp this memory of mine

Inspirations for Poems Posted

Last week, I received an email from a teacher asking me if her class could read/analyze and decipher my poem titled "Phantom". Of course, I was delighted. She asked me what the inspiration for Phantom was, so I will answer that here.

Phantom was inspired by my favorite broadway show - Phantom of the Opera. It was the first broadway show I had ever seen. I absolutely loved it! Phantom, is my interpretation of the main character.

PHANTOM

PHANTOM

Silently observing, your fantasies take form,
Invisible and shunned, a façade you adorn.
Excited by your game, a psychological mastermind,
Your dark, twisted dreams you set out to find.
Perform and manipulate, you’re precise and shrewd,
Lies fooling all that you choose to pursue.
Your charming disguise poisons innocence,
Venomous scars on a heart that can’t sense.
Falling deeper into your dark masquerade,
Until the strength of her mind, allows your mask to fade.
A loser you’ve become at your insidious game,
Narcissistic and vain, you’ve lost your longing fame.
Fallen from your throne, you set out to flee,
Running and hiding from a truth you can’t see.
You only fear the honesty that exposes your flaws,
Your emptiness, your deception, what she finally saw.
You live in your mind, your reclusive fantasy,
Your dark soul nothing more, than a phantom to thee.

DREAMER

DREAMER
Close my eyes, I wonder, I wait
Eager anticipation, dreams await.
Glowing moonlight, fading away
Peaceful the night, forever I could stay.

Beauty surrounds, stars shine so bright
Reach for them all, keep them in sight.
Endless possibilities, I have no fear
Strength and wisdom have brought me here.
Strength – from the trials, in life we go through
Wisdom- from mistakes, when that was all I knew.

I won’t look behind, I can’t change a thing
My dreams push me ahead, I give them wings.
By moonlight I dance, to the song I always knew
That lives in my heart, now breaking through.
Dreaming my nighttime into my days
The path of a dreamer, forever I will stay.

Reflect

I stand and stare as the waves before me crash
Wondering what life rises in their swells
Lifting up high as the wave’s peak
Seeing the light of the sky, temporarily brighter
Only to be pulled back in as the wave retreats
The light fading with sinking depth
A lot like life as we all know it…

With each fall we rise, hoping to skim the surface and catch the light
To one day break through it, shine so bright
Allowing us to better appreciate the darkness by moonlight

Trapped

TRAPPED

Empty shell, hollow, living half-alive
Chosen misery, chosen compromise
Trapped in the past, she holds the key
Captive to your fears locked in misery
Scars that run deep, a heart that can’t see
Blinded by pain, wanting to flee

Unexpected hope, joy brought by fate
Feelings never known, destiny’s soul mate
Shared dreams, secrets, hopes and desires
Enchanted connection, ignited inner fire

Selfishly torn, fiercely pulled away
Tangled in her web, forever doomed to stay
Days go on, time passes by
No longer alive, no spark in your eye

Memories of a joy that once made you whole
Safe in your dreams, eternal in your soul
