THE NIGHT

The Night

Carefree, in the woods, beautiful at dusk
Jumping over fallen branches, running through the mulch
Tranquility, underneath, the sun-kissed twilight sky
My heart beating fast, waiting for a sign
The sound of branches cracking, muffled in the distance
I hear advancing footsteps, catching up to mine

Faster I run, gasping for breath
Sounds of the night, echo in the wind
Darkness above, accents the starry night
The full moon gleams, casting shadows through the trees
Exhilarated, though breathless, as the chase closes in
I see my destination, not far, in the distance

A quick glance behind me, stops me in my tracks
Gone from the trail, no sound of footsteps
Approaching the cabin, my hand on the door
I wonder no more, your breath close behind me
Can’t help but smile at your playful allure
You kiss my cheek slowly as you open the door

Into our world, the cabin in the woods
Leave everything behind, until dawn’s first sign
Our place in the woods, somewhere only we know
Our time, our place, until morning’s first glow
